JavaMail is a Java API used to send and receive email via SMTP, POP3 and IMAP.
It is built into the Java EE platform, but also provides an optional package for use in Java SE
  
Email history
Email was the Interne's first killer app.

What is the first email address?
ARPANET mail
Ray Tomlinson is generally credited as having sent the first email across a network,
initiating the use of the "@" sign to separate the names of the user and the user's machine in 1971,
when he sent a message from one Digital Equipment Corporation DEC-10 computer to another DEC-10.

As of 2019, the software is known as Jakarta Mail, and is part of the Jakarta EE brand (formerly known as Java EE).
